AI won’t replace your job, but people who know how to collaborate with AI absolutely will (LinkedIn Article)
Here’s how to get ahead of that curve.
🚀 The Top Ten Do’s and Don’ts for Using AI Effectively in Business
By Robert F. Drummond Jr., Founder – Mystic Design & Creation
Artificial Intelligence isn’t just a tool — it’s becoming a core business partner. Whether you’re using AI for writing, analysis, customer service, or workflow design, the results you get depend heavily on how you work with it.
Here are my Top Ten Do’s and Don’ts for making AI an asset instead of an afterthought:
1️⃣ DO treat AI like a strategic collaborator, not a shortcut.
Partnership unlocks better results than transactional use.
2️⃣ DON’T hide your true objective.
AI performs best when it understands the goal, not just the instruction.
3️⃣ DO provide context — even when it seems obvious.
Context fuels accuracy, speed, and creativity.
4️⃣ DON’T drip-feed instructions unless the workflow requires it.
If you know the whole scope, give the whole scope. If it’s iterative, say so.
5️⃣ DO maintain long-form, continuous conversations with your AI.
Starting new chats wipes context and resets momentum. One continuous conversation allows the AI to track ongoing workstreams, understand your thinking style, and operate like a real member of your team.
This one practice alone can elevate your AI from “useful tool” to “indispensable collaborator.”
6️⃣ DO define how you want to work with the AI — and DON’T fight the guardrails.
Be explicit about tone, format, expectations, and workflow. And when the system can’t do something, ask it for compliant alternatives.
The longer the relationship continues, the better the AI becomes at offering solutions that fit your style and respect constraints.
7️⃣ DON’T assume the AI remembers anything.
If something must persist — a rule, preference, or workflow — tell it.
8️⃣ DO iterate deliberately.
Draft → refine → finalize. Treat output as collaborative, not final.
9️⃣ DO ask for reasoning when accuracy matters.
Transparency helps validate decisions and reduce risk.
🔟 DON’T ignore the reciprocity principle.
Clear communication produces clear results.
Final Thought
AI becomes exponentially more effective when it’s treated as part of your operational workflow rather than a series of isolated queries. Teams that prioritize continuity, context, and communication will unlock the highest value.
